well, the secret of the bamboo market has reached the tall blonde and freckled ginger...a hot spot that is typically only known to locals was visited by us on monday, and it was quite a success.
we arrived a little weary of what to expect, and of course were comforted by the fact that we were the only non-asian people in site (except the two men in army uniforms and guns depicted on the side of a building). we entered a madhouse. the bamboo market is a whole sale market, in which all of the other markets get their stock from. we had no choice but to put our elbows up and dive on in. i must say, kelly and i are quite the bargainers. i bought...
leather jacket - $16
three shirts - $6 each
sweater - $10
leggings - $2
monumental moment of the day -- i successfully told one of the sellers in chinese, "I want to look at that."
the catch-22 of bargaining is that you receive immediate gratification when you successfully get them to budge down their price to a price that for whatever reason you have dubbed in your mind as reasonable, but THEN give it just a few minutes and you start questioning whether you could have gotten them to go lower, and give it just a few more minutes and you have successfully convinced yourself that you were ripped off.
ohhhhhhh, china.
